Welcome to the job post for Autokroma ! I will present first myself, my company and finally explain what the job is and how you can apply for it :
I'm Antoine, engineer, entrepreneur, artist. I started my first solo software AfterCodecs in 2017 and have been running Autokroma.com since then. I feel pain everytime audiovideo pros spend hours fighting against their software to achieve their day to day work and helping them is my top priority. I havwe hundreds of new ideas for new products / projects / services to launch.
I've been travelling as a digital nomad for 8 years, working remotely on the go while visiting every continent and doing many sports such as scuba diving, sailing, freediving, paragliding, gliding, kitesurfing. Others hobbies include being a fractal artist, photography, studying maths, creating psychedelic video editing clips, music video clips, 2D and 3D printed art.
I'm always looking for new software developers to help me improve my current software products. I'm responsible for everything at my company, from the first line of code down to every sentences interacting with the final user, including customer support at 3 am. I had a lot of successes and failures in my ventures and I'm eager to share them with you soon. Recently I decided to stop hiring developers remotely. I rented a big office with kitchen downtown Porto to hire employees living locally, and work with them face to face on a regular basis. My current goal is to create a good team, and have it, me and Autokroma to grow together.
Our mission is to make video editing professional's daily lives working with their software easier. Our goal is to save them hours every week. We developed 5 paid and free plugins for Adobe After Effects / Premiere Pro, used by dozens of thousands of profesionnals and amateurs alike.
We are specialized in Adobe, encoding, decoding codecs but we're always on the lookout for new opportunities in others areas : others video editing software, visual effects, general workflows for other industries etc.
You can find more info about our current plugins on our website: https://www.autokroma.com/
You know how to code in C or C++ or GPGPU or JavaScript, debug, troubleshoot issues and are able to research topics on your own. You have an excellent memory and great English writing level, you can also speak oral English. You're ready to work for real, learn everyday new tools, procedures, programming tips, methods for organizing yourself the work.
You have an analytical mind and you're focused on solving problems given constraints that are both told to you but that you also gradually come to understand yourself by exploring the domain. You can read lots of text easily and follow instructions. You're self conscious about how your mind worked in the past and can iterate new ideas to change how you work.
You live around Porto to be able to come at least three days per week to the office. You will be able to work fully remotely for longer periods of time if everything goes correctly in our work together.
I will train you in the areas where you will need help or the domains that interests you, but I expect you to learn everything I'm teaching you fast so that we get S*** done, and move on more interesting projects / tasks. Your diplomas don't matter as much as being compatible to work together, same for X years of experience in technology Y that we'll stop using next year.
We do video editing software in C / C++ / JavaScript on Windows and macOS. Our website is made with JavaScript, TypeScript and the Deno runtime. Our code is not difficult per se, we don't use that much advanced features (or they are already coded and you can re-use them). It's the software development environment that is complicated, with lots of GUI to navigate, edge cases to take into account, OS / platforms differences, weird behaviors to study, black box software to interact with such as Adobe software, undocumented requirements and code to be cleaned without breaking legacy features. Nothing that a clear mind cannot navigate effectively, if taken seriously.
I want to be talking to YOU directly, that's how we're going to work together. My first interview step is to visit me at my office for a quick 20 mins chat so we can start getting to know each others. After this I will contact you again for future steps. You can come dressed casually whatever you prefer to wear in this hot weather.
I'm downtown porto 5 mins by foot from Trindade station in Porto downtown.
Book a slot here on calc.com before 2nd september included for my first round of interviewsApplying on LinkedIn is NOT enough! You must book a physical meeting at our office to be considered for this position.
